Who doesn’t love being admired and looked upon as a
celebrated public figure? And when people have tasted success and enjoyed being

1) Heath Ledger (1979 – 2008)
Although he immortalized the character of Joker in the movie
- The Dark Knight, he mortalized in 2008 at the very young age of 28 years. An accidental
overdose of drugs caused his untimely demise, leaving incomplete business. As tragedies
often beget hauntings, so it happened. His ex-fiancé has claimed to have seen
his ghost twice. Once at night, when she saw furniture moving around,
accompanied by eerie noises and a shadowy figure. Second time, she saw his
spirit that apologized her for not being able to help raise their daughter.
2) John Lennon (1940- 1980)
A well-known name in the history of Rock music, John Lennon
was shot to death by one of his fans in 1980, when he was just 40 years old. In
1983, people have claimed to see him at the same spot. In 1995, during a
recording session, a band member, Sir Paul McCartney experienced instruments
veering off the charts and playing melodies mysteriously. Other members of the
band have also felt his presence. Undoubtedly, his death was sudden and violent
enough that caused his soul to linger around.
3) Elvis Presley (1935 – 1977)
Looked upon as one of the greatest music icons, Elvis
Presley breathed his last in 1977 at a young age of 42 years when drug overdose
caused cardiac arrhythmia. His body was found in the bathroom of his home in
Graceland, TN, which he still haunts. People believe that he haunts the
building in Nashville where he recorded his hit single 'Heartbreak Hotel' in a
recording studio. At the Las Vegas Hilton, stagehands have also seen him, clad
in his famous white-sequined jumpsuit. Whenever his name came up in his former
recording studio, sound systems echo unexplained noises and studio lights began
flickering!
4) Marilyn Monroe (1926 – 1962)
An iconic figure of Hollywood, Marilyn Monroe died young at the
age of 36. She was found dead due to a barbiturate overdose in 1962 at her Los
Angeles home. People believe that her ghost haunts her home while she is also
believed to haunt Roosevelt Hotel, making clear appearances in her favorite
Cabana Room Suite. People have been shocked to watch the beauty’s ghost in the
full-length mirror of the hotel lobby. She
has also been heard playing the bugle on the hotels’ eighth floor and seen dancing
in the hotel's ballroom.
5) Montgomery Clift (1920- 1966)
Another celebrity ghost in Roosevelt Hotel is of Montgomery
Clift - a four-time Oscar nominee. He breathed his last after a cardiac arrest
in 1966 when he was 45 years old. Since then, room number 928 is haunted by his
spirit where people have heard strange noises, even if the room is vacant. In
addition, the phone is frequently found off the hook and the room is always
cold - presumably from a ghostly chill.
6) Orson Welles (1915-1985)
Credited to have changed the face of Hollywood, Orson Welles
couldn’t survive the heart attack at the age of 70 and left for heavenly abode in
1985. But the erstwhile actor, director, writer, and producer actually didn’t leave
the earth as he continues to haunt his favorite dining spots, one of those
being Ma Maison restaurant, which has since been turned into Sweet Lady Jane
Bakery. People have reported to see him sitting on one of the tables, all clad
in black suit, his favorite cigar, and a wide-brimmed hat.
7) George Reeves (1914-1959)
Having made the character of Superman super famous, George
Reeves was just 45 years old when he was found dead in 1969 in his room. A bullet
wound on his head was the cause of his demise that remains a mystery whether it
was a murder or suicide. Since then, his bedroom has been rumored to be
haunted. People have claimed to hear strange noises from his bedroom. Some have
also claimed to have seen a man’s shadow in Superman regalia.
8) Jean Harlow (1911- 1937)
The first blonde bombshell, Jean Harlow was an American film
actress who succumbed to kidney failure in 1937 at a very young age of 26 years.
Although a celebrity, the actress had a tragic life. Her husband, an MGM
executive, used to viciously beat her. It is said that he committed a suicide
in their home. A family who stayed in her house in 1970s had claimed to have
heard to sobs, mysterious fragrance, and a woman’s voice whispering, “Please
help me.”
9) Lucille Ball (1911-1989)
After savoring stardom for almost four decades, this
Hollywood beauty met her end at the age of 77 in 1989. She succumbed to a
ruptured aorta following open-heart surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in
Los Angeles. Since then, new occupants of her home have reported to experience
various strange incidents such as windows breaking inexplicably, empty attic
echoed with loud voices, and furniture as well as other household items moving
on their own. It is believed that Lucille Ball continues to stay in her house.
10) Lon Chaney (1883-1930)
A beloved character actor in the silent film era, Lon Chaney died of Lung Cancer in 1930 at the age of 47. Since his death, his spirit has been seen on Stage 28 (The Phantom Stage) at Universal Studios, Los Angeles, where his classic story - The Phantom of the Opera was filmed. For several years, audience and employees of the studio have considered Stage 28 to be haunted by Lon Chaney.
11) Abraham Lincoln (1809 – 1865)
16th President of America – Abraham Lincoln was assassinated
at the age of 56 in 1865 at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C. But he continued
to visit White House and was spotted by staff and occupants there. He also
appeared to President Coolidge's wife Grace Coolidge in the Oval office. The
former president’s spirit also greeted Queen Wilhelmina at her hotel room.
Former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill also claimed to have seen
Abraham Lincoln while staying in the Lincoln Bedroom.
